Community fund

2026 | Sorted Money Month

The community fund is back!

Do you need support to run a Money Month event or initiative for your community? Now in its fourth year, the Sorted Money Month community fund provides small grants for not-for-profit organisations to support their local community with events and other initiatives that promote financial wellbeing during August. Activities such as baking and soup stalls, promotions in malls and libraries, panel discussions and gardening giveaways are an invaluable part of this national public awareness campaign, encouraging people to engage with financial sector community groups and reach out for help or advice.

The theme for Sorted Money Month 2026 is emergency savings, an essential way New Zealanders can empower themselves to cope better with unexpected costs. Many of our community partners work with their clients to help them build up their emergency savings to avoid debt and increase their financial resilience. This Money Month, you can engage with the theme or simply promote general pathways to getting ahead and improving financial wellbeing.

To apply for a share of $5000 to support your community during Sorted Money Month, tell us about your good ideas. Monetary grants to help support your community activity will be given up to a maximum value of $1000, and will be allocated in smaller denominations, depending on the proposal. Smaller denominations are more likely to be granted than the maximum amount of $1000, to ensure more communities can benefit from this initiative. You’re welcome to suggest two initiatives of different value in your application.

Get in your entry before 11.59pm on Friday 12 June 2026. Successful applicants will be confirmed by Friday 19 June 2026; if you can’t be contacted by Friday 26 June 2026, your grant will be forfeited and distributed to another applicant.
