Money Month Community Fund 2026 Terms & Conditions

2026 | Sorted Money Month

  1. By applying for the Money Month Community Fund (the “Fund”) you agree to these terms and conditions.   
  2. The Funder is The Office of the Retirement Commissioner trading as Te Ara Ahunga Ora Retirement Commission (“Funder”, “Te Ara Ahunga Ora”).  

    Available grants 

  3. Grants of between $100-$1000 are available for community groups to apply for. A total pool of $5,000 is available.

    Smaller grant amounts are more likely to be offered than higher amounts nearing the $1000 cap to enable more community initiatives to take place. The grant funding will be awarded to the chosen initiatives that have been planned in accordance with the requirements of these terms and conditions and the application form on Te Ara Ahunga Ora’s website (the “fund”). Te Ara Ahunga Ora reserves the right to amend the grant amounts and cap the funding higher or lower to best suit the applications received.  

    How to apply 

  4. To apply for the Fund, the community group must complete the application form. An application will only be valid if all steps have been completed. Entries must be submitted via the application form by 23:59hrs on Thursday 25 June 2026 (the “Promotion Period”).   
  5. By submitting an application, the applicant confirms that they are responsible for the initiative proposed in the application form and submitted as part of the fund and will organise and execute the initiative and assuming any risks associated with it. The applicant also confirms they will send a photo to Te Ara Ahunga Ora, showing use of the initiative funds. Te Ara Ahunga Ora will have use of this photo for any external publication, including the 2026 Money Month and any future campaigns. The funder may request a photo 1–2 weeks following the event if one hasn’t been received.   
  6. Who can apply for a grant: Individuals, groups, organisations and entities, whose projects, events or initiatives clearly and directly benefit the wider community. For example:   
    • not-for-profit, charitable and voluntary ‘community’ organisations with a formal legal structure   
    • individuals and groups with no formal legal structure who can demonstrate their community outreach 
    • social enterprises (e.g. Charitable trusts, cooperatives or unions, etc.)   
  7. Groups and/or individuals who are part of a group that may be connected to Te Ara Ahunga Ora or their staff need to ensure they declare any possible conflict of interest (including potential or perceived conflicts).  

    Deciding on successful applicants  

  8. The successful grant applicants will be decided by a panel including staff from Te Ara Ahunga Ora at Te Ara Ahunga Ora’s sole discretion. In choosing the successful applicants the Funder will consider the description of the initiative in its relation to ‘Money Month’ and the impact to communities. The Funder’s decision on the successful applicants is final and may not be challenged.   
  9. Assessment of all applications will be carried out from Thursday 25 June 2026, or once the application is made, with successful applicants being decided by 11.59pm on Thursday 02 July 2026. The Funder will notify the successful applicants (‘recipient’ of the grants by email by Tuesday 7 July 2026. If the Funder is unable to make contact with a recipient by Friday 10 July 2026, the Funder reserves the right to select another applicant.   
  10. The Funder will pay each of the Grants within 5 working days of acceptance of an invoice from the recipient to Te Ara Ahunga Ora.   
  11. After the grant has been paid, the recipient, acting reasonably, must execute the community initiative as per the application details. If this will be impractical or undesirable, the recipient must immediately notify the Funder.   
  12. The recipient of the fund may be announced through the Retirement.govt.nz or Sorted.org.nz websites and associated email databases and may be promoted on Te Ara Ahunga Ora and/or Sorted’s social media during Money Month – August 2026. 

    General

  13. Grants are not transferable for cash, credit or otherwise outside of the explicit use detailed in the application.   
  14. Recipients agree that the Funder, and its agencies, may use:   

    a. your (group’s) details   

    b. any of the items that were submitted as part of the application   

    c. details of, photos and videos of the initiative that the grant money is used towards, for Te Ara Ahunga Ora’s or Sorted promotional and marketing activities.   

  15. The Funder reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to vary these terms & conditions or cancel any or all of the prize draws or components of this fund without notice.   
  16. The Funder is not liable for any failure (for whatever reason) to record an application into the fund.   
  17. All decisions made by the Funder in relation to the fund are final and no correspondence will be entered into.   
  18. The Funder shall not be liable, except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, for any direct, indirect, special, or consequential loss, damage, or personal injury (whether physical or mental) in connection with the initiative, the grant funding, or its use by the successful applicants.   
  19. The Funder will collect, use, and store all personal information it receives in connection with the fund and/or application in accordance with Te Ara Ahunga Ora’s privacy policy.
